At JMJ, we’re just a little obsessed with efficiency and this time, we tried out Clipchamp. This is one reason we’re always on the lookout for and testing tools that help create standout content without draining the whole day or the budget.

I asked our resident social media expert, Darlene, to stitch together a quick reel for The VA Project. The goal was simple:

Find a new tool that’s free, fast, and straightforward to use. We get that not everyone is in the position to outlay funds for a program or funds to pay for someone else to do it.

Enter Clipchamp, Microsoft’s browser-based video editor. When we first explored it, we logged in with a Google account—quick and easy, no Microsoft subscription required.

📢 Just a heads-up: From August 23, 2025, Clipchamp will be streamlining its login process, and a Microsoft account will be required to access the platform. If you don’t already have one, creating a Microsoft account is free and only takes a few minutes.

The Clipchamp brief:

Use existing video footage recorded months ago to promote The VA Project’s Ultimate Checklist Collection and turn it into an Instagram Reel.

You might think it’s simple enough. However, Jacqui had some caveats: The Reel had to look polished, clean, and professional. So, this is how we did that.

How it came together:

Getting Set Up:

Signed up and logged into Clipchamp, created a new video project, and switched the canvas to Instagram Reel size (vertical and ready to go).

Import & Arrange:

Uploaded the footage, dropped it on the timeline, and started shaping the story.

Branding & Style:

Captions were added for accessibility (because sound off is the new normal), the text was styled for visibility, and a branded intro using the 3D book image was created, complete with subtle animation to make it pop.

Transitions & Flow:

You want smooth transition effects between clips to keep things engaging but not overwhelming.

Finishing Touches:

Added an outro video to wrap it up and selected some royalty-free music from Clipchamp’s library that fit the vibe without distraction.

Export:

Downloaded the final video in HD (720p or 1080p) with no watermark, even on the free plan. And here’s the final output.
